The Freedom Religion

Opening his remarks (starting at about 00:13:00) at the Rally for the Republic a few days ago, Ron Paul emoted about the support given to his wife Carol during her time of critical medical crisis:

Our Christian friends sent us good wishes and prayers … and our Jewish friends sent good wishes and prayers … and our Muslim friends sent us good wishes and prayers.  And, lo and behold, we received a lot of good wishes from some agnostics and atheists and we were delighted to get those as well!  It confirms my conviction that freedom brings people together.

I suppose we can chalk this up to one who desires to unite a pluralistic nation under the banner of constitutional freedom and liberty, but it still made me wonder if Dr. Paul, for all his great attributes, believes in America as a Proposition Nation (propositions like freedom and liberty) rather than as a nation united by the permanent things that forged our founding, like a common trinitarian Christianity.
